Northumbria University based in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North-east of England is a vibrant, modern university. Consistently rated as excellent for its great teaching quality, Northumbria offers courses in a whole range of subjects including Business, Computing, Engineering, Law, Performing Arts and both Fashion and Graphic Design. To find out more about these and other courses offered by Northumbria visit www.northumbria.ac.uk/coursesearch.
Whilst at Northumbria, all study abroad students get a real experience of UK education, working alongside home students. Specialised guidance and support is offered throughout your stay by the Programme Director.
There is no doubt that Newcastle is the place to be a student with its lower cost of living compared to other areas in the UK and excellent transport links with the rest of Europe via Newcastle International Airport. In fact, in a survey recently carried out by the European Commission, Newcastle was in the top three cities in Europe for quality of life.
We work hard to make sure that your experience here at Northumbria University is second to none. Take student support for example - accommodation, international student advisors, libraries and study facilities. Looking after you is our job and we are great at it. This is one of the reasons why we have one of the highest course completion rates of any university in the UK (around 90%). Once you’re here, we’ll do our best to keep you here by looking after you. You’ll want to stay.
As well as student support, another reason you’ll love studying here is the city of Newcastle upon Tyne itself. Most of our courses are taught in our city-centre campus, and there isn’t a city in the UK that can match Newcastle at the moment. It’s as famous for its cultural life as it is for its social life, and it’s surrounded by some of the most beautiful and historic countryside that the UK has to offer.
There is no doubt that it is a great place to live and to be a student, with its lower cost of living and accommodation compared to other areas in the UK, its good public transport infrastructure, its International Airport – we could go on, but you will have got the point by now. After all, the forty-two thousand students currently studying in the city can’t be wrong.

Annual overseas tuition fees for new students on full-time courses in the 2008/2009 academic year are shown below. The fees below cover the majority of our courses but there may be variations. If you would like to know the specific fee for your course please contact the International Office.
In addition to your tuition fees, you should allow enough funds to cover living expenses for the duration of your studies. The cost of living in Newcastle is among the lowest in the UK. The amount you will need depends on your lifestyle, but we estimate that the minimum amount required by a single student to cover basic living expenses (e.g. accommodation, heating, food) is around £6,500 for a 12-month period.
