Name: Ms. Georgiana Grama

Age: 24

Country of origin: Romania

Programme: BSc in Convention, Event and Exhibition Management

Georgiana's philosophy

Starting with the high school graduation, a student’s career path becomes a collection of good or less fortunate choices and the secret to opt for the most appropriate opportunities is knowing what you want to achieve by following a certain road in life. It is either taking the lane or the avenue; I preferred the latter.

Did you see a difference at MIC?

After having been confronted with a one-year educational experience in my home country, Romania, the opportunity to study at MIC seemed immensely rewarding. The possibility to compare the two educational systems helped me understand the necessities that an emerging country like Romania has in terms of education and its effort to rise on the stage of global events. The insight into the relation between education, a successful career and a bright future now allows me to emphasize the need for education in a people-oriented business like ours.

How did MIC help you find the right course?

My enrollment at MIC has proved to be the first step of a long journey full of surprises and positive experiences. I had started majoring in Hospitality Management when, after having the privilege to meet an inspirational instructor, I soon discovered that I had innate skills for another area, which is now blooming in the context of global development, i.e. I decided to build myself a career in Convention, Event and Exhibition Management. This was perhaps the second best decision I have ever made, following my enrollment at MIC. The myriad of wonderful opportunities which followed my choice soon developed and now promise to offer me a successful career in the meetings industry.

My time at MIC is now coming to an end and I feel endless gratitude for the opportunities that having so holistically embraced a culture and a language which are so special to me may bring in the future. During the more than three years at school I have matured immensely, personally and professionally, having received quality education from very talented and knowledgeable instructors and having gained a very good perspective over the industry, due to the internships undertaken during the summer holidays and not only.

Needless to say, the fact that the institution is located in a 5-star hotel offers one the possibility to interact with employees, managers and also guests, thus personally observing and applying the principles learned in class.  The whole settings is enhanced by wonderful surroundings that the picturesque Cretan landscape has to offer. To this may be added the educational and recreational opportunities provided by the school field trips, as well as the possibilities displayed by the island’s capital city, Heraklion. I am happy to have studied on an island and in a country characterized by friendly people, beautiful habits, safe and secure conditions for students, as well as general political stability. MIC is indeed unique for offering a family-like atmosphere, created by its administrators and faculty, as well as potential friends for a life-time.

Being now in my last semester, I look at the younger student generations and guess their enthusiasm and passion for studying on Crete which, unlike any other destinations, is the cradle of the oldest civilization. More importantly though, MIC, just like most international universities, warmly embraces a multicultural community, on its way to becoming the future leaders of tomorrow on the hospitality and/or meetings industry‘s global stage.
