Name: Maggie Codman

Coutry of origin: Malawi

Programme: MBA

Overview

Maggie Codman has completed her full-time MBA (Master of Business Administration) at Leeds Met and is now looking forward to finding a job in the local region.

Maggie, originally from Malawi, was looking for a university to study at in the West Yorkshire region and decided on Leeds Met as she thought the course and University would suit her.

“I was working in middle management in Malawi and I wanted to progress myself professionally, the MBA here suited me and I thought it would be beneficial for my continual professional development.”

Whilst researching universities, Maggie relied heavily on the internet “I found the Leeds Met website really easy to navigate and found all the information I needed.”

She found the MBA course very practical and feels it has equipped her with a plethora of transferable skills which she can apply to a professional environment.

“It has helped me to think in broader terms, the core aspects of my jobs have been communication based and the course has enabled me to improve these skills, including presenting, working as a team, leadership and decision making.”

Maggie found the option to study elective modules from the Faculty of Heath particularly interesting and enjoyed studying the HIV/AIDS Global Policy and Reproductive Health Rights modules as part of her course.

“The resources at the University are great and were really helpful to me, especially because I travelled to come to Leeds Met. The computer facilities were great and the late opening hours of the library I found very useful.”

“It’s a really user-friendly University with lots of helpful staff, life is certainly made easier with the help and information on hand – I miss it!”

Maggie feels the course has given her opportunity to work in many areas of business and she is currently looking for roles in sales and marketing, with a particular focus in medical sales she is also considering going into a research position.

'I have also thought about further study once I have decided which area of business I would like to specialise in, or may even do a PGCE so I too can teach further education – I would definitely come back to Leeds Met to do this.'
