Case Study

Name: George

Age: 21

Country of origin: UK

Course: Songwriting

Overview

George joined BIMM Bristol in October 2011 to study Songwriting – and was signed to Columbia Records less than a year later. His rapid rise to major-label recognition came as no surprise to BIMM staff, who recognised his unique bluesy voice and gifted songwriting early on.

Since signing his record deal, George’s star has continued to rise. He agreed a publishing deal with BMG/Chrysalis, and was championed by BBC Introducing, playing on their stage at Glastonbury 2013, just before his debut EP ‘Did You Hear The Rain?’ was released. In early 2014, George placed fifth in the BBC Sound of 2014 poll and toured the UK for two months, before heading to Europe just as his song ‘Budapest’ had gone Top 10 on iTunes in 15 countries and reached No. 1 in Austria, Czech Republic and New Zealand.

In June 2014, George played an incredible set on the John Peel stage at Glastonbury, and his single ‘Budapest’ debuted at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart, selling over 400,000 copies in the UK alone. His debut album ‘Wanted On Voyage’ was released to critical and commercial acclaim, reaching No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart and attaining Gold certification for selling over 100,000 copies. One thing’s for certain – George’s journey has only just begun and we look forward to hearing more about his musical success in the future.
