International Education Fair in Mauritius 2010

Every year the International Education Fair in Mauritius takes place in which last year about 20 international institutions participated. This fair is usually held in November just after the completion of the HSc examinations. This provides an opportunity to prospective students to gather information about study areas and take early informed decisions.

This fair is held at the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel in the capital city of Port Louis. Due to its excellent location and easy accessibility the hotel is able to attract many visitors for the fair.

The fair is well advertised in the local media including press, radio and television. In addition posters and banners are put up all over the island. Personal visits are made by representatives to various schools and higher education establishments to promote the Fair.

In the fair venue a table with two chairs will be provided to each participant. There will be two chairs on the opposite side for visitors. A local volunteer will be provided free of charge. On the final night of the Fair there will be a gala cocktail and dinner for participants. A number of prominent personalities connected with Mauritian education will be invited for this dinner.

The last fair was inaugurated by the Minister of Tertiary Education and the earlier one by the President of the Republic.

Market Intelligence

Mauritius, though a small country is a reasonably good market for student recruitment especially to UK universities. As per statistics available over 500 students go to the UK every year to pursue University education. This number is steadily rising. Since the Mauritian education system is modelled on the UK system of O and A levels, going to the UK for university education seems logical. Further there is a big demand supply gap prevalent locally both for undergraduate and post graduate education. Finally UK education has always been valued here.
