Educaturk International Education Fairs - Spring 2011

Receiving an education is of great importance to Turkish citizens. Every year, over 50,000 Turkish students study overseas in language, college, university and vocational programmes, and they need solid information in order to choose where and when to study, as well as what is required to make their experience abroad as effective and enjoyable as possible.

As a key source of information, students and their families attend Educaturk International Education Fairs. Since over %70 of the population now live in large urban centres, Educaturk takes place in the three largest cities: Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, each with its own, unique profile.

Educaturk enables its thousands of motivated visitors to explore the many educational opportunities around the world. Visitors of all ages and with a broad range of interests come to meet with the hundreds of exhibitors, to help make informed decisions about their education options.

Educaturk is independently organised in Turkey by professional exhibition and marketing specialists – not agents. Agents are of course welcome and we encourage schools / universities to invite their agents to assist at stands and with follow up. Our marketing and advertising reach is second to none, based on many years of experience of fair organisation and attendance.

Market information

Each year, an estimated 50,000 Turkish students travel abroad for higher education. Favoured destinations are the USA, the UK, Europe and increasingly Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Turkey has a young population with about 50 per cent under the age of 30.

Competition for university admission in Turkey is fierce – over 1.7 million Turkish students sit for around 500,000 university places, including two-year associate degrees; only an average of less than one in four is successful.

There are only 260,000 Bachelor program places available, and a student must score at least 120 points in a national examination to be able to apply for their choice of Bachelor’s degree.

University entrance exam system has changed in 2010 where a two-staged exam system has been developed. Students will first sit through an election exam, and then placement exam in five different subjects depending on their choice of subject of study.

There are 94 state universities and 36 private (foundation) universities – of varying standards. On average, private university tuition fees are approximately $ 12,000 - $ 18,000 per annum. Higher reputation universities cost as high as $19,000 - $ 25,000.

Working with the University Fairs / Studycentral team is easy, pleasant and fun. They do what we all should: offer sufficient and relevant information, they do it quickly and are very efficient.

I just wanted to drop you a line to say congratulations to [Educaturk] for a successful event! Dr. Ahmet Aydin has briefed me and it seems it all went well - and perhaps better than we all expected, so well done!
