The University of Management and Design was founded in 2009 with the mission:

"to contribute to the educational, cultural, economic and social advancement of Bishkek & the region by providing graduates with European class vocational, undergraduate and graduate education."

UMD's graduates will be leaders in their respective professions, critical thinkers, and creative individuals and will be able to operate in any environment. They will be encouraged to adhere to the highest ethical standards, to recognize their social responsibility and to be committed to democratic values.

We offer our students and academic faculties a uniquely British / European educational environment where students follow a British diploma and graduate curriculum leading to internationally recognised qualifications and certificates.

All of our courses and examinations are rigorously monitored by the BTEK/Edexcel*  accrediting authority in the UK to ensure absolute integrity, honesty and above all quality. A diploma from our University will be globally recognised as a true indication of worth and achievement. Students graduating from UMD have the opportunity to qualify and apply for University courses abroad, to study for Bachelor degrees and Master degrees. From 2011 students will be able enrol onto UMD’s Graduate School and obtain a Western type degree here in Central Asia. Our University is open to local students, and international students are particularly welcomed to enhance and support the international environment and community culture of our campus.

Initially, UMD is focusing its educational efforts in those areas it considers to be the most important for the region: International trade, hospitality and tourism, and design in business.

UMD has a flexible academic programme ranging from certificate programmes to vocational and baccalaureate degrees.

  • 1 year Professional Education Programmes
  • 2 year Vocational Degree
  • 4 year Baccalaureate Degree

UMD offers international exchange opportunities for international diplomas. Specially designed academic programmes enable students to pursue part of their education in accredited universities in the United Kingdom, Europe or the United States in order to acquire an international diploma.

One of our goals is to establish a world renowned art and design centre, where artists and designers from all round the world will visit to advise, instruct and learn.

Extracurricular and social activities are encouraged. The University has access to state of the art sports facilities and there will be regular social events such as dances, shows, culture and the arts, and charitable initiatives within the wider community.

We are a secular university respecting all peoples regardless of their race, citizenship, religion or gender. UMD opens its doors to everyone.

UMD believes in the future. Our students and graduates will be prepared to start their lives for the better, as leaders, as creative individuals, sensitive to society and the environment, and positive contributors to the community.

Overview

I chose the University of Management and Design because I have always been interested in graphic design and especially 3-D design. There is no any other opportunity to gain an education in this field in this country. Also, the courses are all vocationally focused and all in English which means that I will be completely ready to go right to work when I get my diploma. With the internationally recognized diploma I hope I will be able to find work as a 3-D designer somewhere in Europe. I am now in the Preparatory Program at UMD and will start my university courses in September. The instructors are very good at explaining the material. They are also very strong but this is good for me because I want to be the best and succeed very well in university.

Also I am meeting many new friends and we all work together as a team. Before I didn’t know which university to choose but now I’m glad I chose this one.

Tuition fees range from USD$1,500 to USD$2,000 per semester depending on the faculty and courses taken.

Average living expenses, in a shared apartment, will be USD$250 per month or USD$2,250 per academic year.

Students who apply to the programmes of The University of Management and Design must be in their last year of secondary education or have successfully completed secondary education in the Kyrgyz Republic or at a school equivalent to that of an International High School.
